On November 6, the CRTC released their decisions on the reports submitted by the ESWG on the Stage 2 features of Wireless Phase II.

The Commission supports the recommendations of the Working Group and calls for the features described in ESRE0049, the Stage 2 features (unsubscribed, unregistered, uninitiated or roaming) to be effective immediately, meaning that it’s important for all of us in the 9-1-1 industry to be aware of the recommendations. There are still some clarifications to be done, but we need to educate our PSAP staff as to the limitations and availability of location information, whether delivered automatically or through a call to the 24/7 support lines.
For the ESRE0050 report, the In Call Location Update (Rebid) the Decision mandates its implementation by September 2012, as was recommended in the report.
